Call The Doula: Fetal Positioning 101

Baby Talk: What Your Newborn Is Trying To Tell You

They may not be able to use words yet, but babies have many ways of communicating! As parents and caregivers, our job is to learn how to listen and observe. Let me help you with that. My name is Cassie Schultz and I am a certified birth and postpartum doula and infant massage instructor. One of my greatest joys is watching the incredible bond that grows between a parent or caregiver and an infant. Learning how to read and understand a baby’s cues is an amazing part of this process, but it's not always easy. If you are finding it challenging to understand what your baby is trying to tell you, don’t worry, you're not alone.

Join Great Lakes Doulas on Wednesday November 6th from 7:00-8:00pm EST for an introductory class on infant communication.

What you’ll learn in this class:

- Why it’s important to listen to babies

- The 6 behavioral states that babies go through,
  throughout their day

- Engagement and Disengagement cues

- How to distinguish between different types of
  cries

The best part? It’s happening online so you can participate from the comfort of your home and it’s FREE!

Wednesday, November 6th from 7pm-8pm EST

Registration is required, sign up today!

Did you know that there is so much more to fetal positioning than breech or head down?

If you are pregnant, there is something that I want you to know. Fetal position matters. In the four years that I have been attending births I have witnessed a large spectrum of experiences including both very quick and very long labors, simple straightforward deliveries and more complicated deliveries. I’ve supported women having completely natural births with little or no intervention and I’ve supported women having vacuum assisted deliveries, episiotomies and cesarean sections. The same theme keeps reappearing through birth after birth. Fetal positioning matters. When a baby is in a less than ideal position, labor might to be longer, more painful and more complicated. While there is no way to guarantee that you begin labor with your baby in a certain position there are things you can do to help your baby assume the best position possible and increase your chances or having a smooth, uncomplicated delivery.

Join the Great Lakes Doulas team for an introductory talk on this important topic. You’ll end our conversation with a basic understanding of fetal positioning and awesome resources to use throughout your pregnancy and birth. Are you curious about more birth topics? We’ll have an open question and answer time where you can ask us anything and everything bump, birth or baby related.
